Report Says: WhatsApp,Facebook will be forced to share users messages with UK police

According to a Bloomberg report, Facebook, WhatsApp and all US based Social media platforms will have to share user's encrypted messages with Uk police under an upcoming treaty between these two countries.

This new rule is part of a new treaty between these two countries, which will allegedly be signed next month. After that all US-based social media companies will have to share information to support investigations into individuals suspected of serious criminal offenses including terrorism.

Previously UK’s home secretary Priti Patel has warned that Facebook’s plan to enable users to send end-to-end encrypted messages would benefit criminals and called on social media firms to develop “back doors” to give intelligence agencies access to their messaging platforms.

In accord with this new treaty, The UK and the US have agreed not to investigate each other’s citizens as part of the deal, while the US won’t be able to use information obtained from UK firms in any cases carrying the death penalty.

Further Facebook opposed this new rule in a statement to a Bloomberg,"We oppose government attempts to build backdoors because they would undermine the privacy and security of our users everywhere. Government policies like the Cloud Act allow for companies to provide available information when we receive valid legal requests and do not require companies to build back doors.”
